Holiday Inn Airport - Portland by IHG

The shuttle or ride service ran late, disrupting my schedule, and the food fell short. I'd look for dining elsewhere if you have other options. Customer service was mediocre, a 3 out of 10, with staff seeming disengaged and not very helpful. The main issue was housekeeping: my pillows and sheets weren't changed on the second day, though I expect basic daily cleaning at this brand level without having to ask. On the positive side, someone was at the front desk when I arrived, and check-in was straightforward. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Portland in November 2024 and expected better attention and service for the price. I hope management improves housekeeping in particular. I would hesitate to recommend this place until things improve.

The worst part was emailing management about all this and never getting a reply. My stay at Holiday Inn Express Portland was frustrating throughout, far below what I expect as an IHG Platinum Elite member. The airport shuttle took 47 minutes to arrive after I waited, which set a bad tone after a long travel day. At check-in, I was told it ran every 20 minutes, but at 6:34 AM the next morning I was told it wouldn't leave until 7:00 because it was “late.” That made no sense and caused stress. There were no welcome bags or water for Platinum Elite members. Remy at the front desk didn't try to help or offer another option, just said I had to pay $3 for a bottle. At the on-site restaurant, there were no alcoholic drinks and the menu was extremely limited. This wasn't clearly explained and felt misleading. The food service manager was polite and even gave me a bottle of water. Later, after dropping me at Red Robin (Cascade Station), the driver never came when I called for the return shuttle, leaving me stranded. I had to pay $10 for an Uber back. I wouldn't recommend the property if you need reliable shuttle service or basic courtesy, especially as an elite member.

The room was very clean and the bed really comfortable, which was all I wanted. I actually got much more than that from a young woman at the desk who greeted me with a smile, welcomed me, and went out of her way to help and make an accommodation. That's not something you find often these days. I needed to stay an extra day in portland after being at the crown plaza, and the service here was better than what I got there.

The room itself was good and pretty clean, but the hotel information was hard to get. They text you at check-in to say you can text with questions, but they don't respond. There was no in-room information about hotel services like the restaurant. The TV kept showing a repeating message, and the remote had buttons for account info and a hotel directory, but neither worked. I always find it odd when hotels with restaurants don't do more to promote them.
