La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Tyler - University Area

The room was spotless, the beds were comfortable, and it had all the essentials. Breakfast downstairs was available only until 9 am, which feels early when checkout isn’t until 11. I gave service three stars because arriving at 11:30 pm for check-in, I felt I was bothering the night receptionist and interrupting whatever he was watching on his tablet. I’d mixed up my booking and gone to the hotel next door, SureStay, I think it was called. The young man there figured out I was meant to be at La Quinta and was cheerful and welcoming. Your night porter could use some tips from him to be more inviting.

We asked for restaurant ideas and tried Roma's Italian. The suggestion was great, and the food was delicious. The young man who checked us in was professional and nice. Our room was clean, the area was quiet, and there was plenty of parking.

My dad was in the hospital, and I was having one of the worst weeks of my life. I probably overwhelmed every staff member with stories about his health, but they were all so kind. They listened and accommodated me when they didn’t have to, which made a horrible time much easier. I’m very grateful to all the staff I met.

The pool was closed for the season, though it looked nice. There’s also an ice machine, guest laundry, an exercise room, and a meeting room. Restaurants and shops are close by. Subway, Schlotsky's, and Whataburger are about a 15 to 20 minute walk or a short drive, with Walmart and more a little farther away. I’d definitely stay again if I return to the area. This is the nicest La Quinta I’ve stayed in. The grounds are beautiful and well kept, everything was clean and comfortable, and it exceeded my expectations. Check-in was easy, and the clerk was helpful and welcoming. My king suite was nicely decorated and had a very comfortable bed, desk, couch, two TVs, mini-fridge, microwave, plenty of lighting and outlets. The bathroom and shower were very nice, with a hair dryer, soap dispensers, and everything I needed. There was a full-sized ironing board and iron in the closet, plus a full-length mirror. Breakfast was great by hotel standards: the usual cereal, drinks, and coffee, along with fresh eggs, sausage, potatoes, toast, biscuits, oatmeal, and more.
