Avid Hotel Detroit - Warren

The staff made our hockey team's stay especially easy. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful, and they went out of their way to make things run smoothly. The hotel was spotless, the location worked well for getting around, and the beds and pillows were a dream after long days. Breakfast was average but good enough to get us going. The real-time grind and brew coffee was a great extra for coffee lovers.

We had two rooms for nearly a week while my landlord had repairs done at my house, and the service was unbelievable. I especially appreciated Steven coming to my son's room to help him sort out the TV. Mitchell, Steven, and Miguel were all on top of everything, and I'm not saying the other employees weren't. I wish I'd learned the names of the two women who cleaned my room, too. Everyone seemed to care a lot, and I think management runs the place to a T.

Avid turned my trip around after what may have been the worst hotel stay of my life at a Red Rash Inn. The rooms were gorgeous, with really nice furniture, and so clean I couldn't tell anyone had stayed there before me. The location is great too, with a Tim Hortons in the parking lot and 696 and Hoover making it pretty central to metro Detroit. Worth every penny. I'll stay here next time I'm back home visiting.

I used to like this hotel when it first opened, but I stopped staying here after staff entered my room on two different visits. I understood the first time, when they said they knock three times before coming in. On my second stay, I told staff not to enter and said I'd handle cleaning myself. I was in the shower when the manager walked in as I was getting out. I was furious and confronted her in the hallway. She explained the policy with an attitude, saying they check after housekeeping. I told her again that I didn't want anyone entering, but she insisted it was policy. My son was the only reason I didn't punch her. I felt violated after making my wishes clear. An apology could have cleared things up, but the manager's nasty attitude made me decide never to come back.
