Hotel Gio

We stayed five nights. I found a camera in the toilet and another in the bedroom, hidden inside the smoke alarm. Staff tried to convince me that cameras aren't allowed there by law, but how do they explain the red light I saw after using an infrared (IR) scanning device with RF signal detection? The breakfast was brilliant, the staff friendly, and the location good. The metro station wasn't working, though, or the location would have been brilliant. Rooms are very small, and the shower and toilet are strangely set up, with no privacy between them.

The mattress was okay and firm, and the air conditioning worked in summer. Those were the only good things for me. The elevator would go up but not down, and there were lots of stairs and narrow spaces. The setup felt very odd, reception staff seemed unhappy, and the prices felt like a rip-off. Water pressure was bad, the door wouldn't close properly, and I didn't feel safe. This was what was available when booking at the last minute, but it's not for me.

The location was excellent: everything was walkable, the metro was just two minutes away, and a Lidl was only a few minutes from the hotel. Check-in was quick. In our first room, my husband's clothes were covered in animal hair after he sat on the couch, and the pillows were completely covered in white fur. We reported it at reception, and they handled it well by moving us to another room and giving us complimentary breakfast, which was delicious. Apart from that, everything was fine. Traffic made the street a bit noisy in the morning.

The breakfast had lots of choice and was really interesting. The hotel's location is very convenient, close to the Ubahn and Oktoberfest grounds. It's two U-Bhan stops from the center, or a 20/30 minute walk. The rooms are small and not very bright, but nice. I would have liked a Frigo in the room.
