Ca' del Modena

The room was clean and spacious, and I was glad there was a bidet in the toilet. Nicola was pleasant enough when we first met, if a little too solicitous. Our emails before arrival may have been a bit problematic, but we were just relieved to finally find the place in Venice's maze of corridors after coming from the bus station. One window was unhinged and nearly fell on me when I tried to open it. The towel drier wasn't working. Nicola said they'd turned it off at the end of winter, which seemed strange to me since towels get wet whenever we use them, whatever the season. We let it go when he said the towels would be changed, but they weren't. They were just refolded, maybe hoping we wouldn't notice. There was also a mangled wire hanger in the closet. I have no words for that. The TV didn't work either. Nicola said he'd tried to fix it, but didn't replace it or move us to a room with a working one. Breakfast wasn't included, so we had tea in the room. There was only one chair, and when we asked for another, our request was denied for some unclear reason. I made a makeshift seat out of the side table because having tea on the bed would have been messy. We asked for coffee sachets since there were complimentary tea packets but no coffee. We were told they didn't have any because they only provided a tea maker, though there was an electric kettle, not a tea maker. The saving grace was being close to our favorite restaurant, the MuroVenezia San Stae. Otherwise, it would have been a huge disappointment. The rates aren't cheap either.
