Riad Bounaga

I’ve been here a couple of times. It used to be called Riad Arfoud, and changed its name a few years ago. A chap in England runs it. It’s a decent, basic place in the middle of the old town, with a big courtyard and rooms around it, the usual riad layout. From outside, you just see a door in the wall and a short entrance hall. It sits at the end of a quiet side-street, which gave me a moment to brace myself for the old town’s chaos. Finding it was daunting on my first visit, since Google Maps didn’t have it then, but I eventually figured out a straightforward route from the market square. The facilities are a kitchen with a fridge, a shared area, and a bathroom. It’s basically a bed for the night. There was no wifi when I went in 2014, though I can manage a few days without it. The most direct walk to the market square takes about ten minutes if you don’t get lost or caught in traffic. There’s also a nice balcony on the roof.
