Travelodge by Wyndham Rapid City/Black Hills

The bed was reasonably comfortable, well made, and the room was clean. There was complimentary soap, and the lamps had outlets with USB charging spots. But the room was tiny and dim, with just two lamps at one side and no overhead light. The window had been left open when we arrived. Only one outlet was available on one side of the bed, and the mini fridge and microwave had to go in the entryway, making bathroom trips awkward. Towels had nowhere to hang in the bathroom, so they were on the entryway clothing rack. The furniture was damaged, with holes drilled in the dresser top and a missing handle on its top drawer. The fridge barely stayed cold and the microwave was weak. The advertised continental breakfast was two unsweetened applesauces and a granola bar; I was told that was because homeless people came in and ate breakfast. The pool, hot tub, and gym were all out of service.

The staff were kind and helpful, and the location made getting around easy, with gas stations, Walmart, and restaurants nearby. We used it as a base throughout the trip, driving out each morning to places like the Badlands and Custer State Park. It was comfortable and budget friendly, and the rooms were clean and nice. I did have some trouble with the microwave and AC reader, and room service came in despite my do not disturb sign, but nothing major.

The front desk staff member I met was helpful and had good suggestions for somewhere to eat. There's a strip mall nearby with some big stores, too. My room was clean and comfortable, and the bed wasn't plush but was comfortable enough. The TV was a bit small, though it was fine. The hotel seemed recently updated, which was a plus. It was nice to have a pool and hot tub available, even if they weren't anything fancy. I didn't try the free breakfast, so I can't comment on it.

We had two rooms from 09-23-2025 to 09-30-2025 and would stay again. The beds were firm but comfortable, and everything worked, including the Wi-Fi. Plumbing and AC were fine, and we didn't see any bugs. Breakfast was pretty limited, with no protein options. We didn't use the pool or other amenities, though they looked good. The gym was closed for renovations.
